Sculptural Works
These forms are loosely based off ancient vertical loom weights recovered in excavations at the Palatine Hill, adjacent to the Roman Forum in Rome. The original objects, simple and curved, once served as tools for an inherent part of life: the weaving of cloth to comfort, clothe, and keep warm. My sculptures live as reverberations of daily presence as harmonious forms with a reflecting pool effect.
On top of these sculptural forms I melt combinations of raw materials, oxides, and frit. Even when the exact same materials are used, the patterns and effects vary widely. Every piece is one of a kind and tiny little material phenomenon.

Distillation 2, 6” x 8” x 7”, 2021, Stoneware, Terra Sigillata, Melted Frits and Oxides
My forms are met with an alchemical approach to melting ceramic raw materials together in the kiln, such as glass frits, metallic oxides, and minerals. In my material combinations, I achieve haptic qualities that are familiar, yet mysterious and unplaceable.

Plaster, Frit, Oxides
In my work, I experiment with interactions between clay objects, plaster colored with metal oxides, and melting raw, powdered ceramics materials that are traditionally used to make glazes. Materials meld into one another, inextricably supporting and pushing each other into new places, creating no separation and resulting in unidentifiable substances. There is an otherness that feels indiscernible, fascinating though unplaceable. The work has a mysterious quality that I am both excited and grounded by.

This low-slung serving bowl is a great size for a fruit bowl. The subtle ridges on the sides help your hands grip for carrying but keep the minimalistic profile intact. It is made of red clay and terra sigillata with glaze on the interior. It is best to handwash this piece. It should not go in the microwave or oven.

This mug is made of red clay and terra sigillata with glaze on the interior. Mother of Pearl luster was applied to a select number of the white dashes to give surprising little dash of rainbow shine during use.
