Information:

            In 2016 I engaged in field research across Rome. I went to investigate sacred structures. I found myself distracted by the patterns and textures of the spaces I had gone to experience. I took rubbings as record. For 4 years these rubbings have traveled with me, mentally and physically. The rubbings were the result of taking notice, allowing attention to guide, and observing with curiosity.

            At the beginning of the pandemic, I felt the need to slow down, to breath slowly, and find calm. Recalling the calm of the careful attention I had when making the original rubbings, I decided to revisit the rubbings. My paintings decontextualize the rubbings into amorphic non-specific spaces. In some pieces, the symbols seem to float. Other pieces simply celebrate the rubbings. The color palettes are monochrome to achieve a sense of calm.

  Most recently, these pieces were featured in my solo exhibition titled “Forever chasing Shadows”.
