Perceptual Boundaries is visually heavy, rooted to the floor through its weight. Inside each pillar is a different combination of unique material effects, colors, and textures at different distances from an oculus at the top. The viewer is invited to illuminate the individual objects’ interiors using pen lights. The pen light beams are perfectly circular. Peering inside requires a careful, close proximity. Viewers are led to increase their own body awareness in relation to the vertical pillars in front of them. The piece demands use of a tool to have access to its internal information.
